Most cities and homeowners do not know a problem exists in their pipes until it’s too late. Raleigh, North Carolina currently experiences one break per day in its 4,800-mile long sewer and water system and city officials are doing everything they can to prevent future breaks. The pipe that caused the sinkhole, which was built in the 1950s, is expected to be repaired by the first of June.

Throughout the next 10 years, the city expects to spend more than $375 million repairing aging sewer and water lines. To get a head start on repairs and prevent further sinkholes and problems from occurring, the city is sending cameras underground into the pipes to check for cracks, breaks, and other issues.

Crews across the city have performed emergency maintenance on sewer and water pipes 30 times since the start of 2018. Emergency repairs can be a strain on finances and disrupt daily traffic patterns. Raleigh is now trying to avoid having to make emergency repairs by inspecting some of the oldest pipes in the city. Officials say that it’s more economical to assess and plan for repairs rather than performing emergency repairs.

By getting ahead of a sewer line problem, trenchless rehabilitation to repair these issues can be very cost-effective and time-saving. Perma-Liner™ Industries is the leading manufacturer of trenchless pipeline rehabilitation equipment and materials in North America. Our experience in the CIPP industry has allowed us to design, patent and manufacture state of the art technology in order for us to repair structures without excavation.

CIPP is a method for restoring older pipelines with minimal digging in streets and on adjacent property. A piece of durable lining is installed inside the old pipe. It is a safe and environmentally sound solution to replace and repair aging pipes.
