After severe storms, many cities throughout North Carolina are in the process of repair and reconstruction. The severe storms, which occurred last month, are proving to be a costly mishap. In nearby Henrico County, the city recently allocated funding for costs associated with the storm. The early estimate for storm cleanup was approximately $1.5 million. Last month’s storms reported wind gusts of up to 70 mph, knocking down trees and electricity lines. Subsequently, resulting in power outages and numerous damages to property. The public-use debris collection program has taken in 1,000 tons of debris which will be turned into mulch. Storm cleanup is in full effect and will be ongoing for several weeks.
The city of Richmond’s wastewater treatment plant is in the process of a long-awaited upgrade and is currently conducting community surveys. In order to determine the scope of the project, the groundwork includes gathering information for the first phase. The funding will also be correlated with the surveys, including developing a preliminary engineering report and an environmental report. The second phase will include design details of the project prior to building, as well as contract administration and inspection services. The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin in November, with a completion date of March 2018.
More sewer news: The city of Tarboro has established a grant to assist with water, sewer and a 500,000-gallon storage tank at Tarboro Commerce Center. The 185-acre industrial park is being developed by the Town of Tarboro and Edgecombe County. The infrastructure will ready the property for new businesses and jobs. The grant supports a total capital investment of nearly $1.2 million.
